This 41-unit residential building underwent a comprehensive structural seismic retrofit in alignment with San Francisco’s Soft-Story Retrofit Program, enhancing safety and ensuring compliance with current seismic performance standards.

HBM Construction strengthened the structure through the installation of steel moment frames, reinforced shear walls, hold-down units (HDUs), A35 framing clips, rebar reinforcement, and concrete footings. These critical upgrades improved lateral stability, load transfer continuity, and foundation capacity—addressing common structural vulnerabilities found in multi-family buildings.

The completed retrofit significantly increased the building’s earthquake resilience, improving life-safety performance while enhancing long-term asset protection, structural reliability, and regulatory compliance.
